A wonderful surviving group of vintage German clip-on Christmas tree candle holders, still presented on their original cardboard holder.

These charming little candle clips were designed to attach directly to the branches of a Christmas tree and hold the small candles traditionally used on European Christmas trees. German-made metal tree candle clips are an enduring part of early Christmas decorating history, and surviving examples can be found in both gold and silver finishes.

What makes this group especially appealing is the wonderful assortment of original metallic colors. The holders display shades of red, green, blue, purple, gold and silver, creating a beautiful jewel-toned collection. Each is formed from thin pressed metal with a fluted, scalloped design and its original clip mechanism beneath.

Even better, the group has remained together on its original German cardboard holder, giving the set considerably more character and display appeal than individual loose candle clips.

These are beautiful examples of the type of old-fashioned Christmas decoration that recalls an era before electric tree lights became standard. Today, they make wonderful collectibles for an antique Christmas display, feather tree collection, German Christmas collection, or alongside early glass ornaments and other period holiday decorations.

Because these were originally designed for use with real candles, we recommend them as collectible/display pieces only and do not recommend lighting candles while attached to a Christmas tree.

Measurements

Each candle holder is approximately 2 inches long.

Condition

Condition is consistent with age and use. These retain wonderful aged character, including areas of finish loss, oxidation, discoloration, scratches and wear to the original metallic surfaces. The cardboard holder also shows age and wear.

These have been left as found and have not been repainted, refinished or altered. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
